This week from Monday, July 19th to Friday, July 23rd, we focused on physics and chemistry.

Grades 3-4

We made aluminum foil boats and tested the weight of pennies against water. We learned about density and the relationship between the boat's mass and volume. The boats were very impressive and one student held up to even more than 90 pennies!

Grades 5-6

We learned about molecules, bonds, and atoms through marshmallows! Using a magnet analogy proved to be useful since there are many similarities between how elements bonds and how magnetism works. The students had fun playing around with the marshmallows and tested their knowledge through a Kahoot! game.

Grades 7-8

Learning about cars and rubber bands gave us a better understanding of how potential and kinetic energy works together. One student gave a great analogy of how energy gets transferred on a roller coaster. We spent most of our time making a model rubber band powered car with recycled material to demonstrate sources of energy.

Next week, we will be focusing on design and art oriented projects!
